We believe technology should feel supportive, simple, and respectful. Your privacy matters to us, and this policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we keep it safe.

1. What WHAT SAY Does
WHAT SAY is a native iOS companion that helps you understand and respond to fast-moving written English (and, in beta, spoken and signed input) using visual, topic-first layouts—not walls of text.
- Paste or type text for topic–comment summaries, gloss helpers, and simple English replies.
- Mock mode: processing stays on your device for demos and offline use.
- Live mode: text you choose to send is processed by our server (and, when configured, a language model provider) to generate results.
- Beta and upcoming: audio play-style scripts, draft gloss, session notes, sign-video gloss with your confirmation, live interpreter stream, video ASL interpreting, live captioning, and a desktop pop-out caption widget for Mac and Windows (coming soon—via partner apps, state programs, or agency integrations where allowed).
- Accounts and app access: opening soon—not required for current test builds.
2. Information We May Collect
Depending on how you use WHAT SAY, we may collect:
- Text you submit in live mode (for interpretation features).
- Optional API settings you enter (stored on your device).
- Last saved results on your device (local storage, not on our servers unless you share them).
- Device and usage information: device type, OS version, app version, crash reports, and general analytics.
- Account information (name, email, login): when accounts open—opening soon.
- Audio or voice-related content: when you use beta or upcoming audio features, with your permission.
- App access status: when app access launches—managed by Apple; we do not store full payment card numbers.
3. How We Use Information
We do not sell your personal information.
- Provide app and website features you request.
- Improve performance, security, and accessibility.
- Troubleshoot bugs and support future improvements.
- Process app access when available (via Apple App Store).
4. Language Processing & Third Parties
In live mode, your text may be processed by our hosted API and by OpenAI (or another provider you configure) under their terms and privacy policies. Review those settings if you disable training on your data.
WHAT SAY does not provide human sign language interpreting. Gloss and English outputs are aids only.
5. Data Storage & Security
We use commercially reasonable safeguards designed to help protect user information.
No app or internet transmission is completely secure. Use WHAT SAY at your own discretion; do not submit content you are not allowed to share.
6. Children's Privacy
WHAT SAY is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we will work to remove it.
7. Third-Party Services
- Hosting (e.g., Vercel), analytics, authentication (when accounts launch), crash reporting, and app access billing (when available).
- These providers process limited information only as needed for app functionality.
8. Your Choices
- Use mock mode so text does not leave your device.
- Update or delete local saves on your phone.
- Manage app access through the App Store when app access is available.
- Request account deletion when accounts launch.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use means you accept the updated policy.
